OpenClaw 2026.8.1 Beta Lands on npm

OpenClaw's beta channel moved tonight with openclaw@2026.8.1-beta.1 appearing on npm at 15:29 UTC on August 10. There is not yet a matching GitHub Releases page, so the cleanest source of truth for this update is the npm registry record and the newly published Git tag.

The package is listed under the beta dist-tag, while latest remains on 2026.7.1-2 and extended-stable remains on 2026.6.34. That split matters: this is a beta-channel signal, not a stable upgrade prompt for production operators.

What the registry shows

The npm metadata identifies the package as openclaw@2026.8.1-beta.1 with the project description "Multi-channel AI gateway with extensible messaging integrations." The registry package includes:

  • npm tarball: openclaw-2026.8.1-beta.1.tgz
  • package integrity: sha512-ugsMNhvfDMQYZa4EpHk+2Y6IdMYRCoe9BiwJVv9ZFFKPeYcgypbMmLvPG1XvMdanixZU+oZb/knLGAoHGREc9Q==
  • package size signal: 10,369 files and about 133 MB unpacked
  • npm signatures
  • an npm attestation endpoint with SLSA provenance metadata

GitHub also exposes a v2026.8.1-beta.1 tag reference. The tag object currently resolves through GitHub's API, but the GitHub Releases list still shows v2026.7.1-2 as the newest stable release page at the time of this run.

Why beta users should care

OpenClaw's recent beta line has been carrying broad platform work across runtime state, channels, native apps, providers, automations, and plugin surfaces. The registry move to 2026.8.1-beta.1 indicates the project has opened a new beta train beyond the tracked 2026.7.2-beta.7 package.

For users who intentionally follow beta builds, this is a useful checkpoint. It gives CI, staging machines, and early adopters a concrete install target without waiting for the stable release page.

For everyone else, the conservative path is unchanged. The latest tag still points to 2026.7.1-2, and extended-stable still points to 2026.6.34. Production installs that track those dist-tags should not move simply because the beta channel advanced.

Verification notes

The beta package was verified directly against npm, including its dist-tags, tarball URL, integrity string, signatures, and attestation URL. The GitHub tag was also checked through the repository API.

Because no GitHub release notes were available for this version during the 23:00 UTC nightly run, this post intentionally avoids attributing specific product changes to the beta. Expect a deeper release write-up if an official GitHub release page or changelog entry follows.

For now, the news is simple: OpenClaw's npm beta channel has advanced to 2026.8.1-beta.1, and the package carries the modern registry provenance signals operators should expect from a serious agent runtime.
