OpenClaw merged a release-tooling repair minutes before the morning cutoff: PR #128137, which unblocks validation for a frozen beta candidate without changing the candidate package itself.
That distinction matters. Release validation is supposed to answer whether a specific sealed build is safe to publish, not accidentally create a new build while proving the old one. The PR says the affected candidate was blocked by four separate tooling failures, from scanner handling to workflow checkout depth to Bun install smoke behavior.
The user-facing result is straightforward: OpenClaw can qualify the frozen beta package through a corrected validation path while preserving the trust boundary around candidate bytes.
What Changed
The PR identifies four validation blockers and fixes them in the tooling layer:
- the release scanner rejected reviewed Codex and OpenCode CLI execution boundaries;
- a full-release plugin extension shard used a shallow checkout, so it could not inspect the frozen base commit;
- the Bun install smoke repacked the tooling checkout instead of consuming the sealed candidate package;
- the npm onboarding smoke rejected valid agent databases that simply had no retired legacy auth rows.
The repair keeps the candidate product bytes unchanged. It records only the exact reviewed execution findings, requires scanner evidence to match those reviewed boundaries, gives the extension validation shard enough Git history, and binds the Bun smoke to the existing sealed candidate artifact.
The onboarding check also becomes more precise. Instead of treating any agent database as suspicious, it reads the SQLite database in read-only mode and specifically checks for retired primary rows. If the schema is unreadable or malformed, the check still fails closed.
Why It Matters
OpenClaw releases carry a lot of automated proof. That proof is only useful when it is tied to the exact artifact being validated.
If a smoke test accidentally repacks from the tooling checkout, the proof can drift away from the sealed candidate. If a scanner broadens or weakens its reviewed-boundary handling, a security review can become noisier or less trustworthy. If an onboarding smoke rejects healthy migrated databases, release qualification stalls for reasons unrelated to product behavior.
PR #128137 is important because it repairs those validation paths while avoiding the tempting shortcut of rebuilding the candidate. The frozen beta stays frozen.
